We are looking for a communicative, top-performing project manager able to work under pressure. We expect a university degree in food processing, statistics or economics. Previous experience in the consumer goods industry is desirable. Applicants should have experience and skills in project management and acquisition.

 

Excellent negotiating skills in French, German, and English are essential. Fluency in other lan-guages (English or Italian) is also beneficial.

Senior Sensory Manager - Perfumery

The Perfumery Division is currently looking for a Senior Sensory Manager - Perfumery for our Global Sensory team in our new facility in London, UK.  Working with our Global Sensory Director, you will be responsible for increasing awareness of our London activities and capabilities within the Perfumery Division, the quality and depth of our output and the management, coaching and development of others in the Sensory team.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the day-to-day sensory activity of the London facility.  
  • Proactively develop, promote and lead the cross-category sensory programme to support fragrance development, applied technology and sales.  Ensure the sensory team conducts research reliably and efficiently, provides actionable information, and provides sound interpretation and recommendations.
  • Proactively develop protocols, methods and tools to improve the evaluation of products.
  • Optimize the effectiveness of the sensory resources to ensure high quality information for Firmenich internal and external customers.
  • Where appropriate, liaise with clients’ sensory research groups to maximize the effectiveness of research conducted by Firmenich and by the client, and present sensory understanding and fragrance test results to clients in order to help win business.
  • Help to develop proactive programs and help to coordinate global projects.                                                                                                        
  • Advanced analysis, interpretation and reporting of the findings of sensory tests as appropriate, incorporating knowledge management principles to ensure effective data management and interpretation.  
  • Advise on best use of statistical tools, where appropriate


Profile

  • A solid background in Sensory/ Consumer Science and a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with a Sensory/ Consumer Science focus.
  • At least ten years experience in a sensory/ consumer research role.  Previous experience in the fragrance industry is an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication/ presentation skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • 5-10 years of successful track record of people management in a team environment
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • Expertise in a broad range of sensory techniques and advanced statistical knowledge.

CSIRO is seeking to make an important appointment of a Senior Research Scientist with an excellent reputation in Sensory Science. The position is within CSIRO’s Sensory and Consumer Science Team, within the Behaviour and Sensory Sciences Research Group, which has capability and facilities to research flavour and texture perception, consumer food acceptance and food choice, with an emphasis on eating behaviours.

The capability is focused on understanding lifestyle behaviours, the sensory properties of foods and factors that lead to food choice, acceptance, intake, and enjoyment, and how these interact with lifestyle and health. To use this knowledge to guide new food product development and to evaluate diet and lifestyle intervention programs. Our ultimate goal is to undertake science which will inform the public and private sector on strategies which may increase the health and wellbeing of Australians and decrease health costs.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Formulate, plan and conduct sensory science research, with an emphasis on innovative approaches, which will lead to scientific achievements that are consistent with CSIRO organisational goals.

Few foods are guaranteed to put a smile on people's faces like ice cream.  Unilever is the world's biggest ice cream manufacturer, with iconic brands like Magnum, Cornetto, B&J and the Heartbrand, which operates under different names in different markets (Wall's in the UK and most parts of Asia, Algida in Italy and Kibon in Brazil). Science and technology plays a key part in the ice cream strategy to deliver superior product experiences with enduring impact and quality globally.

The role of Consumer & Technical Insight (CTI) is to act as the link between consumers and the products they use, providing insight and guidance to Research & Development (R&D) in order to ensure the category delivers outstanding products and claims for the Ice Cream brands. This CTI Technologist role will help to lead the regional (European) CTI programme support and help drive the claims agenda across the global programme.


Main Job Purpose

The key job role is to work closely with R&D and Marketing to help shape and deliver the Ice Cream category ambition. This will involve working closely with the CTI Director and CTI Managers in order to:

  • Help define and deliver the CTI research programme for the European region to identify new sources of competitive advantage for the category.
  • Partner seamlessly with the European Brand and Consumer Market Insight (CMI) teams to develop and execute integrated consumer research plans for innovation/renovation projects.
  • Develop product stories for several key projects, ensuring that we maximise the consumer claims opportunities from our science and innovation, and drive claims excellence in the category

 

Key Accountabilities:

Europe Programme Delivery

Partner seamlessly with the regional CMI team and global CTI team to develop and execute integrated consumer research plans for innovation/renovation projects (target definition, qualitative and quantitative early stage consumer evaluation of product/ pack prototypes and sensory measurement).  

  • Work with CTI Manager to help define and deliver Europe regional understanding and evaluation support. This includes original research and mining knowledge from multiple sources and translating these into actionable targets for R&D.
  • Help implement global ice cream CTI research plan where Europe is lead region.
  • Support regional implementation of global plan to benchmark product performance vs competitors.
  • Advise on regional CTI budget needs and resources and help to track regional spending.


Together with Technical Project Leaders, Nutrition, Legal and Regulatory, play an active role in crafting outstanding  claims about our ice cream products, and ensuring robust consumer and/or sensory evidence is in place to substantiate them where relevant.  Act as CTI claims expert in European projects.


Driving the Claims Agenda globally

With the global CTI team help to champion best practice for claims capability and culture in ice cream.  Help the CTI Director and Managers with Marketing to build a long-term strategy for credible claims communication that is based on scientific evidence and resonates with consumers.

  • Champion the claims process through working closely with category partners in R&D, brand, CMI, legal and regulatory to develop compelling and ambitious product stories for ice cream  
  • Help shape and build ice cream interest and capability through building a database of relevant claims for inspiration and reference.


Regional Capability Development

  • As a member of the regional cross-category CTI network, actively contribute to the CTI capability development agenda for the region.
  • Champion the ice cream R&D Consumer Connect programme for the region to ensure the consumers’ voice lies at the heart of the R&D programme.


General

As a member of the CTI team, the job holder will be expected to integrate fully into the activities of the CTI team to embed the behaviours required to support the CTI vision.

Skills/ Experience/ Qualifications:

This role would be suited to either a graduate with a developed interest in Consumer Insight and research or candidates with relevant industry experience. The successful candidate will have a willingness to learn that can demonstrate their enthusiasm to grow their career within our organisation.

 

Relevant experience

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant field with some knowledge of R&D, consumer research, marketing or claims
