We currently have an opportunity for a talented sensory professional to join our breakthrough innovation team based in Hamburg. You will manage all Sensory testing programmes for specific R&D markets for beverages. In addition we will leverage you expertise in new and existing Sensory methodologies & multivariate statistical analyses to provide actionable data driven sensory insights to support the regional R&D agenda.
Principal Accountabilities
- To manage, advise, plan and organise all regional sensory insights projects using solid technical project management techniques.
- Manage & prioritise external sensory and consumer tests with 3rd party vendors
- Conduct sensory tests with internal panel and analyse the data, carry out frequent training sessions as well as training of new panellists
- Work as an integral part of the cross functional team to ensure alignment on deliverables and project delivery to time and to the required standard.
- Continuously exchange on new sensory techniques with the broader sensory PepsiCo team
- Provide quality insights and interpretation that drive decision making on R&D programmes for existing and new product platforms and processes across all beverage developments.
Desired Skills & Experience
- First Degree in a Scientific or Food Science discipline.
- Expertise in application and interpretation of multivariate statistical techniques
- Expertise using Xlstat Sensory Analysis software would be preferential
- Previous R&D experience, preferably with experience of managing Sensory testing in an FMCG environment.
- Good understanding/appreciation of the broader business environment and application of technical and commercial knowledge.
- Good presentation skills (written & verbal).
- Strong analytical skills – ability to interpret complex data and distil into useful and actionable information.
- Strong IT skills, able to learn new systems quickly and to apply them in a fast moving business environment.
- Cultural sensitivity/flexibility in responding to different cultures.

We are looking for an Interim Sensory Panel Leader in our Technical Innovation Centre in Haddenham, UK. We offer a 6 months contract. You will be reporting directly to our Sensory Manager.
Job Responsibility - Act as panel leader, leading panel discussions to develop appropriate vocabulary
- Co-ordinate and report daily panel activity (Descriptive Profiling, shelf life tests, quality control and discrimination testing)
- Gathering and analysis of sensory information within the department, according to recognised international guidelines.
- Maintaining and tracking of panel performance using analysis tools and providing feedback
- Re-training of panellists
- Report required sensory information to internal customers in a relevant, timely way to meet the needs of the business.
- Liaise closely with customers to develop appropriate test design
Profile
- A background in Sensory Science and a minimum of a Bachelors degree in an appropriate field with a Sensory / Consumer Science focus
- Ideally experience in descriptive panel leading
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Excellent people skills
- Knowledge of FIZZ software (forms and network)
- Sound knowledge of basic statistical analysis methods
- Enthusiastic about food and the industry
